Crown lengthening is often done in conjunction with a few other procedures of which the combined goal is to improve the future of the tooth. If a tooth lacks solid tooth structure, a post and core may be a necessary procedure of endodontic treatment.  The impaired prognosis crown lengthening due to the combined inherent failure rates of each procedure might make it reasonable to have the tooth extracted. The patient and the extraction site may be better suited for a possible dental implant. The dental implanted tooth may be restored with more esthetic, timely, inexpensive and reliable result. It is important to consider the many options available during the treatment planning stages of dental care.
